The following is an overture from Vintage73.com to the 39th General Assembly*:
OVERTURE V73-2 from Vintage73.com “Regarding Fellowship Among Elders”
Whereas, we have not seen many of our favorite pastor friends in a very long time.
Whereas, Jesus encourages us in John 13:34-35 that the world will know we are Christians by our public love for one another.
Whereas, Jesus inaugurated his first public miracle by providing wine at a party.
Whereas, Acts 15 encourages us to pursue the bonds of brotherly love as elders in Jesus’s church.
Whereas, so much of ministry is discouraging, disheartening, and lonely.
Whereas, Virginia Beach has a number of fine location to quench the appetite while simultaneously providing fit libations.
Whereas, some moments of General Assembly challenge C-Span for dullness.
Whereas, our Reformed heritage encourages us to pursue healthy Christian fellowship and conversation over good fermented hops.
Whereas, the new heavens and new earth will be marked by fellowship and feasting.
Therefore, the Teaching Elders, and Ruling Elder, of Vintage Seventy-Three overture the 39th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America to insist that all delegates, unless conscientiously objected, meet with one or more elders outside of normal assembly business to laugh and catch up over a beer.
*Don’t worry, the contributors of Vintage73.com understand that said website does not constitute an ordinary court of the church and as such is not entitled to bring any real overture before the Assembly. However the contributors of Vintage73 ask that commissioner and visitors consider implementing the above overture regardless of ecclesiastical authority.
