Kevin, thanks for your response here. I took your original post as humorous, but really appreciate your three concerns above. I believe you and Dr. Gleason both share a common love for God's Word, and for the church and her confessions. I'm continuing to pray for the PCA and specifically unity around the whole council of God's word as this issues will undoubtedly be discussed at General Assembly.

It seemed to me that in his original three articles he failed to distinguish between matters of first importance regarding doctrine and polity and the reality of adiaphora, especially as the proclamation of the gospel crosses cultural bounds. Hence his equating the political debates around illegal immigration with justification by faith, trivializing the latter, as you pointed out.

I share Matt Tuiniga's concern (in comments on Dr. Gleason's second response) that Gleason's original article could alienate younger reformed PCA folk. I'm praying that doesn't happen, but that we're able to grow in unity within the PCA and across other evangelical and reformed denominations around the whole council of God's word. North America's cities, towns, and villages are full of people who need Christ and the riches of his sovereign grace now more than ever.

Kevin, I think the best approach is for you and me to sit down at GA and have a cup of coffee and talk through this. I will arrive, Lord willing, on Sat. evening, 6.16. I am staying at The (John) Galt House. Here is my cell: 714.318.6743. Let's talk.

Good thoughts, Bobby. Reminds me a lot of my experience of pursuing an MFA while serving as a full time pastor. Though I'm sure my coursework is less demanding than yours. But overall, as you describe, it's been a worthwhile experience.
