Realize that 3dm is selling their product, their model. Of course they want wide-spread change. I don't mean to sound SO cynical. Is some change needed? Perhaps. Are some seminaries training managers rather than on-mission (I'm not a fan of "missional," given its use, even elevation, in some circles) ministers of the Gospel. I think we need to ensure both solid education and nurturing of mission approach, taking such men as Finney and Osteen as cautionary tales for merely setting supposedly called men loose on people!
A reasonable balance including education (as opposed to only "training," which rings of short-term and specific task based; training could be part but not all) from Godly, studied men, ensuring competence with languages, systematic theology, etc., and mentoring in local church setting under Godly pastors (TEs), and association with REs and Deacons, church members and even visitors and attendees, doing the work of a minister and evanglist. I like the models that GPTS has adopted in its approach to theological education for pastors as well as REs and Deacons. I like it better than Re:Train which...trains men quickly to be Acts29/MarsHill shaped pastors. I like that about as much as the mission of the IMB in my former denomination to go plant "Southern Baptist" churches, Biblical or not.

Hmm....I wonder if it may boil down to some Reformed folks being distinctively uncomfortable/embarrassed by Spirit-led/filled folks' activities. There may be some subtle anti-Charismatic or Pentecostal reactions going on.

Sam: thanks for the response, and if Soma does what we only talk about, it sounds good indeed. What about the other stuff?

Kenneth, I wouldn't say Im an expert on everything Soma. But there is a paradigmatic shift from leaders do ministry to members doing ministry. We talk about it. They have done it.

Hi, "Guest." I'm pretty confident that neither the PCA nor A29 is Joe's master. That position is filled by Jesus Christ.
